Our restaurant has evolved from a bistro pur sang to a contemporary bistronomic restaurant:
good food at affordable prices with a creative culinary touch.

Our kitchen team focuses on the product. The plates are creative without being too unusual.
Our chefs use seasonal products and are a big fan of terroir cuisine.

Our menu does credit to the brasserie cuisine with steak tartare prepared at the table as its flagship dish.

Every detail is perfect in this classic bistro. Traditional dishes are prepared with precision and craftsmanship. Fresh gray shrimp are showcased in a crisp salad or in croquettes with a creamy filling. Tartare of Blonde d’Aquitaine beef prepared at the table with fries and salad remains an undisputed signature dish. Dessert is a Normandy pancake with creamy vanilla ice cream.

Gault Millau

A modern bistro on Leopold II Laan. The enthusiastic owners shine the spotlight on North Sea delicacies sourced from local boats, together with brasserie dishes and a set menu with choices in a more contemporary vein. The chefs may craft rye cheeks à la meunière, flanking them with a buttermilk puree for a tangy fresh note, fresh fennel and a subtle buttery sauce. Big-boned flavours packed in varying nuances. A safe bet every time for a slap-up meal in Ostend.

Our “Holiday Suites Mathilda” are located above
Bistro Mathilda and are the ideal base for a
pleasant stay in “The City by the Sea.”

Kitchen open from 12:00 to 14:00
and from 17:45 to 20:45.

When we are at 2/3 capacity, we work in two time slots in the evening:
from 5.45 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 8.30 p.m. to 11.30 p.m.
When we are at 1/3 capacity, you can make a reservation for 7 p.m.

The caviar of the North Sea

Like three preschoolers let loose, our top chefs from Ostend flew onto the fishing nets. Dressed in bright yellow jackets, the famous khaki waterproof trousers (with attached rubber boots) pulled up high. We sent Michiel Rabaey from STORM, Luc Deklerck from Bistro Mathilda, and Tom Vanhaecke from Le Bassin into the sea in search of fresh shrimp and crabs. Chefs will be chefs, so they immediately got out their pots and gas burners to cook their catch on the beach.
